Laura Marcon

Laura Marcon is a postdoctoral fellow at ISTC-CNR and a member of the Laboratory of Agent-Based Social Simulation (LABSS).

Her research explores the dynamics of social norms and behavioral change, particularly under conditions of risk and uncertainty. She is currently part of the Norms at Risk project, which investigates the factors that weaken or strengthen social norms on a global scale, including the role of trendsetters – first movers – within social networks. Her broader work also addresses issues related to working time reduction and the relationship between social capital and inequality during the ecological transition, and includes research on how people make inferences in social contexts and on the extent to which joint commitments may help overcome social barriers such as pluralistic ignorance and in-group/out-group dynamics. She combines tools from the social sciences, such as surveys, with methods from experimental economics, including lab experiments, and integrates these empirical approaches with the theoretical and normative frameworks provided by philosophy.
